Biography

Icelandic dream-folk trio SYSTUR is the musical union of siblings Sigga, Beta and Elín. Born into one of the country’s most respected musical families, they have been in a state of constant creative development since they were born, each branching off into their own unique style and sound, all the while continuing to intertwine their individual strengths into a mesmerizing blend of lush vocal harmonies, haunting melodies, and pure, lyrical honesty. After founding the breakout Indie-House group Sísí Ey, they quickly landed themselves a place on the international music radar with their song ‘AIN’T GOT NOBODY’ sweeping both Icelandic and European radio and press. As a result, the sisters were featured showcase artists at several European music festivals including Glastonbury Festival and Sonar Music Festival in Barcelona. In 2022, Systur represented Iceland in The Eurovision Song Contest in Turin, Italy where they not only won the hearts of many through their gorgeous vocal arrangements and magnetic stage presence, but also through their unwavering commitment to social and political causes such as those affected by the war in Ukraine, as well as the protection of queer and trans children’s rights around the world. Upon returning to Iceland after competing in the Eurovision finals, Systur immediately immersed themselves in writing and recording, resulting a achingly beautiful new EP, including the follow-up single and its accompanying music video ‘DUSTY ROAD.’ True to its title, Systur weaves their ever-enveloping vocal layers like waves around classic, beautiful story telling that is both stark in its honesty and poised with its gentle warmth. As they continue to release a series of singles, live performance and music videos, Systur are also thrilled to be joining the Iceland Airwaves Music Festival in Reykjavik as featured showcase artists alongside some of Iceland’s most prominent acts, as well as a roster of internationally acclaimed artists. Their upcoming EP is slated for release Spring, 2023.
